Rejoicing in the Grace of Christ
Celebration is the practice of intentionally delighting in God and responding to His goodness with joy. It is the discipline of remembering that the Christian life is not merely about endurance, sacrifice, and perseverance—it is also about delight. We celebrate because God is good, Christ is risen, and His promises are sure.
Throughout Scripture, God's people marked His faithfulness with songs, feasts, testimonies, and praise. Celebration helped them remember what God had done and strengthened their confidence in what He would do. In Psalms 126:3 (ESV), the psalmist declares, “The Lord has done great things for us; we are glad.” Joy is often born from remembering.
For the Christian, celebration begins with the gospel. Through Christ, we have been forgiven, adopted, reconciled, and given a living hope. Our joy is not dependent on perfect circumstances but on a perfect Savior. In Philippians 4:4 (ESV), Paul writes, “Rejoice in the Lord always.” Notice the location of our joy: in the Lord. Christ Himself is the source and object of our celebration.
Celebration forms gratitude by training our attention. It helps us notice grace, receive God's gifts, and remember His faithfulness. As we practice celebration, our hearts become more aware of God's presence and more confident in His goodness.
Guided Practice
Today, intentionally celebrate God's faithfulness.
Spend time praising Christ through worship, singing, or prayer
Reflect on the past week and write down three specific ways you experienced God's grace
Share gratitude with someone who has encouraged or blessed you
Enjoy one of God's gifts—a meal, fellowship, beauty, creativity, rest, or laughter—and receive it with thanksgiving
End your day by thanking Christ not only for His blessings but for His presence
Pray:
"Jesus, thank You for Your faithfulness. Help me remember Your goodness, delight in Your grace, and rejoice in who You are."
