Scripture Focus — Hebrews 12:1–2 (ESV)
“…let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith…”
Devotional Reflection
As Advent gives way to the closing days of the year, Scripture turns our attention forward. The Christian life is described not as a sprint, but as a race marked by endurance. And at the center of that race stands Jesus—not only as our example, but as the One who sustains us to the end. Hebrews reminds us that we run by looking to Jesus, fixing our gaze on the love that carried Him all the way to the cross.
This is love that does not quit when the cost is high. Jesus endured the cross, despising its shame, because love compelled Him forward. His endurance was not fueled by obligation, but by devotion—love for the Father and love for those He came to redeem. This is the love that finishes the race. It remains steady when emotions fluctuate, faithful when the road is long, and resolute when obedience requires sacrifice.
As the year comes to a close, this passage invites us to reflect on how we have been running. Advent love does not rush toward the finish line in our own strength. It teaches us to lay aside what hinders us, to release distractions and burdens, and to keep our eyes fixed on Christ. Love sustains endurance when resolve alone would falter. The same love that brought Christ into the world is the love that will carry us faithfully forward.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
Breath Prayer
Inhale: Your love strengthens me.
Exhale: I will run with endurance.
How to Practice a Breath Prayer
When you feel tired or discouraged today, pause and breathe slowly. Let this prayer remind you that endurance is sustained by Christ’s love, not by your own effort.
Practical Application
Reflect on one weight or distraction that has made running faithfully more difficult this year. Ask God for clarity and courage to lay it aside as you prepare to move forward.
