Scripture Focus — Psalm 46:10 (ESV)
“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
Devotional Reflection
Advent unfolds in the middle of noise. Calendars fill quickly. Conversations overlap. Expectations rise. Even good things—celebrations, traditions, responsibilities—can crowd the soul until stillness feels impractical or indulgent. And yet, into the chaos, God speaks a command that is also a gift: “Be still.”
This stillness is not passivity or withdrawal from responsibility. It is an invitation to cease striving—to loosen our grip on control, to quiet the inner urgency that tells us everything depends on us. God does not ask us to still the world around us; He asks us to still our hearts before Him. The stillness He invites us into is relational. “Be still, and know that I am God.” Knowing God comes not through constant motion, but through attentive presence.
Advent peace grows here—in the quiet confidence that God remains sovereign even when life feels unsettled. Stillness trains us to trust that God is at work beyond what we can manage, fix, or anticipate. It reminds us that He will be exalted in the earth with or without our anxious effort. When we become still, we make space to remember who God is and who we are not. In a season full of movement, stillness becomes an act of faith.
Inhale Truth, Exhale Trust
Breath Prayer
Inhale: You are God.
Exhale: I can rest.
How to Practice a Breath Prayer
Set aside two quiet minutes today. Sit comfortably, close your eyes if helpful, and breathe slowly. With each breath, let this prayer release your need to hurry and re-center your heart on God’s presence.
Practical Application
Choose one moment today to intentionally slow down—before responding to a message, beginning a task, or transitioning between activities. Let stillness, not urgency, shape how you move through the day.
Journal Prompt
What makes it difficult for you to be still right now? How might God be inviting you to trust His sovereignty instead of your own effort?
Closing Prayer
God, teach me to be still before You. Quiet my striving and steady my heart with the truth of who You are. In a world that moves quickly, help me rest in Your presence and trust that You are always at work. Amen.
Invitation to train for godliness, run with aim, and finish the race.
Stillness strengthens endurance. Let quiet confidence, not hurried effort, set your pace today as you continue the race with Christ.
